Building Blocks is a series of small works by Glasgow-based artist TERRIBLEm86 from reclaimed wood scaffolding boards that are cut down to 15.5 x 2.2cm. Each block is painted and covered in resin, but each one dictates where it will go, and what occurs is a variety or collection of patterns, colors and sometimes words. I particularly enjoy how the artist has displayed them in the studio along with unfinished blocks, creating a seemingly random assortment of ‘enlightened’ blocks. He writes:
This idea is to breathe new artistic life into an otherwise discarded piece of wood. It gives importance to an inanimate object at the end of its lifecycle; which essentially throughout its life is always underfoot, supporting work, but never being an object of its own creation.
