The Cruellest Month

Mother Gallery is pleased to present our inaugural exhibition, The Cruellest Month. The exhibition’s title is borrowed from the opening line of T.S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land”. A poem written on the heels of the first World War. April is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain.
Eliot knew the ritual of art making is how regeneration occurs after destruction. If art is the alchemical process of creating meaning out of chaos, then it can serve as the antidote for a splintered culture. The Cruellest Month rallies a congress of artworks to reflect and refract, restoring the balance to life as we know it. It is not a singular voice that guides us, but the din of many voices.
Shanti, shanti, shanti.
